Dean Kumar named National Academy of Inventors Fellow

Vijay Kumar, Dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Science and member of the CERL Advisory Council, has been named a National Academy of Inventors (NAI) Fellow. Considered the highest professional distinction awarded to academic inventors, the program highlights academic inventors who have demonstrated a spirit of innovation in creating or facilitating outstanding inventions that have made a tangible impact on the quality of life, economic development, and the welfare of society.

Vijay Kumar is the Nemirovsky Family Dean of Penn Engineering with appointments in the Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics, Computer and Information Science, and Electrical and Systems Engineering. His research on the study of collective behavior in biological and robotics systems has informed the creation of autonomous ground and aerial robots for several applications, including first response, precision farming, and search and rescue.
