Israel’s pager attacks on Hezbollah fighters: A violation of international law?

Hundreds of pagers and walkie-talkies exploded last week in an attack on Hezbollah fighters, resulting in over 30 deaths and 3,000 injuries. Mary Ellen O’Connell, member of CERL’s Advisory Council, addresses the legality of these attacks. Adding explosives to everyday items, such as two-way radios, is a crime under international law, she explains in an opinion for FlaglerLive.com.

For more commentary from Prof. O’Connell on this matter, listen here (Australia’s ABC Radio International) and read here (PBS News).

Mary Ellen O’Connell is the Robert and Marion Short Professor of Law and Research Professor of International Dispute Resolution—Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies, University of Notre Dame. Read her bio here.
